Vaatsalya (www.vaatsalya.com) is a corporate healthcare network focused on providing affordable, efficient and sustainable healthcare service. It was founded by two physicians, Dr. Ashwin Naik and Dr. Veerendra Hiremath, in 2004. Vaatsalya intends to eliminate the gap in healthcare access by creating India’s first network of hospitals exclusively in semi-urban and rural areas.
In India 70% of the population lives in semi-urban and rural areas, while 80% of healthcare facilities are in urban areas. Besides, demand for health care services in India is growing rapidly. Therefore, the opportunity that Vaatsalya enjoys is immense. Their objective is to have 100 hospitals established by the year 2015. At this stage, they employ 500 people and are primarily based in Karnataka.
The company prides itself on not being driven solely by profits, but by the challenge of achieving the right mix of social impact, financial incentive, and desire to improve health care access across India.
Social impact:
- local employment and income generation
- improving quality of life
"A single episode of major illness is enough to eat away the life-savings of most individuals in India"
The last five years Vaatsalya has been able to set up a viable and sustainable business model. Vaatsalya’s team is experienced, committed and has created and proven a model that can be scaled reliably. They have built a good brand and a great experience in the market they operate in.
But the challenge at this stage is as follows: the company focusses on low cost health plans and providing access to healthcare services for the lower middle class. The market segment they are aiming at, their social objective and kind of services, requires them to become more efficient in terms of processes and delivery.
Therefore, they are looking for someone who can offer them an outside perspective on the efficiency in their processes. As an example: there are certain repetitive activities that any hospital does. Vaatsalya would like advice on which of those activities could be mechanized to avoid manpower cost, or could be handed over to less skilled manpower. You will analyse the process flows of Vaatsalya and advice them on how to increase efficiency within the value chain. Aditionally, this would result in advice regarding how to lower the costprice and how to redefine their current pricing strategy.
You are process oriented. You have experience in advicing regarding process efficiency. Preferably with experience in healthcare sector. It would be of additional value if you would also be able to conduct a cost price analysis, resulting from the advice regarding process efficiency.
