About the organisation

Hilina Enriched Foods Processing Centre PLC is a centre which produces and researches products for undernurished children and their care takers. Their goal is to save the lives of those who are malnourished. In 1998 the centre started to produce Vitamin A enriched sugar as well as iodized salt for UN agencies, NGOs and the community. Nowadays they do so by both researching and producing supplementary and therepeutic diets.

Because of the significant growth of the organisation (in terms of size and capital) HILINA has continued to install modern machinery and other equipments. Recently HILINA also established an on-site food laboratory, has opened an office in Nairobi to reach East African markets and keeps on developing new products to fight hunger. Their main product is plumpy nut :a special nutritious bar for malnourished children.

The social impact of Hilina is:

● eradicating malnutrition by producing this Plumpy Nut
● local purchase of raw material, mainly peanuts, for high end market prices

What will you work on

Your assignment will be to scan and improve the efficiency in the supply chain. Since 2010, production capacity has increased and a new sales office is opened in Nairobi. Also an MBA team of Tias/Nimbas has, together with CEO Hilina Belete and stakeholder Mr. Belete, developed a growth strategy and an updated business plan.

In regard to this scan, they draw the conclusion there is much to win by improving the supply chain. You will visit the supply in the field (in Pawe or Metekel) up to the laboratory & markets and advise on quick wins and long term improvements.

What do we expect from you

You are a medior or senior expert in supply chain specialist, preferably in food manufacturing.

Also, to participate in an Expert Programme you need to have:
- at least five years of relevant working experience
- at least finished an HBO-education or have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree


Costs

Participation in this programme is on a voluntary basis. International travelling expenses are to be paid by the participant. SharePeople charges the participant a reasonable fee for which he/she receives matching, preparation, training (intercultural and safety) and work materials. The local organisation facilitates full board & lodging and local transportation for the participant.
