Ilawu Hotel is a "boutique" hotel located in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The name originates from the Zulu name meaning private home. IIawu hotel and lodges is one of the only few well established accommodation facilities in Pietermaritzburg. The hotel has a special concern for its social impact for the community. It has its own social responsibility programme; Thokomala outreach programme. Futhermore they offer opportunities for traineeships for students of the Tourism University in Durban, and therewith try to contribute to youth employability.
Ilawu Hotel needs support regarding business planning to make the business on the long term profitable and sustainable. "A sound business plan will make financial assistance possible in order for us to have a 100% ownership of the hotel, and be able to grow the brand and keep the majority of the ownership locally owned to benefit our community and our country at large."
The main challenge the lodge currently faces is to improve their financial as well as operational management. For now, the focus will be on an overall business scan and business planning. The two broad areas need a comprehensive review with the aim of preparing an action plan for their improvement. Also they are interested in connecting with other businesses and organisations in the tourism industry in order to learn from them how to improve their services.
You are experienced in business analysis and business planning. Preferably you have had exposure to the hotel/lodge (small) business industry.
